What is PMP certification?
According to research, there will be a need to fill up 2.2 million new project-oriented roles each year through 2027. This will generate lots of opportunities for skilled project Managers because they will be in high demand globally. According to Project Management Institute (PMI), the Project Management Professional certification is designed by Project Management Professionals for Project Management Professionals and validates that you are highly skilled in these critical areas;
People – Effectively leading a project team in today’s changing environment.
Process – Fortifying the technical aspect of managing projects from start to finish
Business Environment – Identifying the link between projects and the organizational strategy.
With that being said, the PMP certification is a globally recognized designation given by the Project Management Institute (PMI) to professionals who are able to pass the PMP certification exam.
The certification exam was recently updated to align with the new PMP Exam content which addresses both the Predictive Approach and Agile / Hybrid Approach of managing projects across all the three domains mentioned above.
What are the requirements for the PMP exam?
PMP certification is valuable and it requires 100% commitment. If you have led or been part of a team that successfully led some real-world projects from start to finish, that’s awesome! I will say that you have crossed one of the difficult parts.
However, there are some requirements you must satisfy to be eligible for the PMP exam. So try checking them out before applying.
Option 1
- You have a degree from a recognized University.
- You have a minimum of 36 months (3 years) experience leading projects. During this period, you should have work on projects for at least 4500hrs.
- You have 35 hours of project management training or CAPM® Certification
Option 2
- You have a high school diploma or an associate’s degree (or global equivalent).
- You have a minimum of 60 months (5 years) experience leading projects. During this period, you have work on projects for at least 7500hrs.
- You have 35 hours of project management training or CAPM® Certification.

How do I get the PMP certification?

Secondly, you need to Apply for the PMP exam: In our training, we will guide you on how to successfully apply for the exam. After submitting your application, PMI can take up to 5 business days to review and respond to your PMP exam application. Your application will have two possible outcomes; If your application gets approved, you will receive an invitation from PMI to pay and specify when you will like to go in for the exam. If your application is not approved or you are selected for an audit, you will receive a mail as well on the next steps.

However, it is beneficial to register as a PMI member before applying for the PMP exam. It helps you save some money on the exam fees, boosts your resume as a member of a global professional body in project management and keeps you updated on recent happenings in the project management industry. The cost to become a PMI member is $139, as a member you pay only $405 for the PMP exam and $555 as a non-member.
Thirdly, you have to sit for the Professional exam and be successful. The PMP exam consists of 180 questions to be finished within 230 minutes. The questions come in different forms ranging from objective to interactive questions.
